Alastair Campbell, Non-Executive Director
Alastair is a Non-Executive Director of Benchmark Sport Holdings. After a lengthy career as a journalist including senior editorial roles at Today newspaper and the Mirror Group, Alastair moved into politics by becoming Press Secretary to Tony Blair when the latter became leader of the Labour Party in 1994.
When Mr. Blair became Prime Minister after the 1997 election, Alastair took on the role of Chief Press Secretary and Official Spokesman, entailing the co-ordination of the Government’s communications strategy. Following a second landslide election victory, Alastair took on the wide role of Director of Communications and Strategy – a post he held until resigning in September 2003.
Since this time, Alastair has undertaken a number of consultant projects both in and out of the political scene as well as publishing his diaries covering his years in government. A keen sportsman, Alastair’s role at Benchmark Sport Holdings is his first non-executive director position since leaving government.
